2020 Shiver Family & Friends Roundup and Black History Cultural Event
Join the descendants of the "Shivers of Bellaire" Plantation located in Eastover, SC. The Shiver Heritage Society desires to share the footprints left by our ancestors and reconnect with relatives and friends that may not realize that they are a part of one of the oldest families of the Congaree River. This is where our story begins... Located two miles west of Eastover, SC south of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad was the large plantation called Bellaire Plantation. Bellaire Plantation was owned by Drury Bynum, a Lower Richland planter who was born in 1762 South Hampton Virginia. Bellaire Plantation was between Elm Savannah, Deer Pond, Woodard, Scott, Stoney Hill and Pea Ridge Plantations in the Gadsden and Eastover Area. Records indicate that most of the Shiver family lived on a part of the Bellaire Plantation called Shiver Place. The earliest known member of this family was Simon Shiver (b1793). Simon Shiver is believed to have had at least four children with his first wife; Joseph (1814), Sophia (1820), Aaron (1821), and Reverend Peter Shiver (1825). Will Shiver (1836) was Simon’s son with his second wife Sophia.
