Seen and Heard: Women and Girls in the Midlands Inaugural Exhibit

Friday, February 2, 2018, 1:30 AM - 4:30 AM

WREN will open Seen and Heard, a free exhibition at Tapp’s Art Center (1644 Main St.), featuring photography and portraiture by a diverse group of women, gender minorities, and girls from across the Midlands region on February 1-22, 2018. This dynamic exhibit is the premier event in a series of eight unique gallery openings across our region featuring 80 pieces from 40 new, local artists. Through Seen and Heard, photography has been used as a means of expressing the opportunities and barriers faced within our community.

Exhibit artists were recruited by organizers: Sowing Seeds into the Midlands, Every Black Girl, PASOS, Homeless No More, Girls Rock Columbia, The Hive Community Circle, WREN, and Indie Grits Lab and range from ages 12 – 50.

In addition, the exhibition art will be supported by captions available in both English and Spanish, video interviews with the artists, and audience members will have the opportunity to respond through a video storytelling booth. Opening night on February 1 will include a free reception with light refreshments beginning at 5:30 p.m., with an artist panel beginning at 6:30 p.m.
